The County Hotel in Lytham is gearing up for its second annual beer festival, which this time has a local focus.
In a bid to highlight the ales from brewers in the immediate area, as well as reduce the environmental impact of the brewing industry, the Church Road venue will be basing the event around the CAMRA LocAle initiative.
CAMRA, The Campaign for Real Ale, set up LocAle in 2007 to support locally-brewed real ales in an effort to meet growing consumer demand and become more aware of environmental issues.
So for this year’s beer festival, which takes place from Thursday, March 24 to Sunday, March 27, there will be at least 30 different beers from 22 breweries within 30 miles of the County Hotel in Lytham.
Visitors will be able to taste a whole range of ales over the four days and find out more about the different types of beers and how they are produced.
The festival will also benefit the Trinity Hospice, which provides palliative care in the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre areas. A donation will be made after the event, to help the organisation support adults and children with life-limiting conditions.
“There are some amazing beers produced in the area, and we want to highlight those to our guests,” explained landlord Craig Daniels. “The LocAle scheme helps to promote local produce, which benefits the community and also aids the environment by reducing transport miles, and this is something we are proud to support through this year’s festival.
“We also hope to raise a lot of vital funding for the Trinity Hospice, which is an important part of the community and does such amazing work.
“This year’s beer festival is the perfect way to support the local area – by sampling the great ales and donating to the hospice our guests can help make a difference.”
The County Hotel is CAMRA recognised and was named CAMRA Pub Of The Season Spring 2008. It works closely with Lytham Brewery to ensure three permanent ales and three guest ales are always available.
